Insights on Boards & Risk Management from Greg Gonzales

Commissioner Gonzales serves as the Commission of the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions. He also serves as Chairman of the State Liaison Committee that incorporates the state supervisory perspective into the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). This role gives him a unique vantage point of how regulatory matters are addressed at the state level as well as with the consortium of all the nation’s federal regulatory agencies. We spoke with Commissioner Gonzales about the role of risk management and board oversight, specifically with regard to tailored regulations, the “math of things”, risk appetite and the June 2020 FFIEC guidance, and how boards should interpret exam findings.

Hey there, my friend! Guy Weismantel here, and I've got to tell you about this super cool episode of “The Ncast” we just cooked up. First things first, big shout-out to you for being such an awesome supporter of our podcast – your feedback seriously keeps us going, so don't stop giving it!

So, let's get down to business. You know how this whole year has been a wild ride thanks to the big C – COVID. Well, on today's episode, we're going full-on data-dive mode into what's been happening in the banking world during all this chaos. And guess what? We've got the co-author of a mind-blowing survey called "Banking after COVID-19," and it's none other than Ron Balmer from Greenwich Associates. This survey peels back the curtains on how banks are adapting to risk, compliance, and guess what – the good ol' human touch.

Hold on tight, 'cause you're about to get a front-row seat to Ron's insights that'll leave you saying "Whoa!" And wait for it – there's a bonus in store. I caught up with Brian, a good buddy of mine who's been on a banking journey too. It's honestly mind-boggling how our paths led us here, and our chat is something you won't want to miss.

Get your comfy spot ready and your curiosity cap on, because this episode is like a treasure trove of knowledge. From how tech's changing the banking game to finding that sweet spot between high-tech and that personal touch, we're spilling all the beans. Oh, and brace yourself – we're even peeking into the future to see what's in store.

Bottom line, my friend: if you're into the nitty-gritty of finance, if you're a risk and compliance whiz, or if you just love a good, eye-opening convo, you're in for a treat. So, don't keep yourself waiting – hit that play button and get ready to be amazed. This episode's the real deal, and you're in for one heck of a ride. Enjoy!
