Whether you're a Compliance Manager, Loan Officer, or Bank President, here are 5 free technologies you should be using to increase productivity, solve problems faster, and reduce stress. Best of all? They're all free.
With only three and a half weeks left of 2017, and the prospect of a whirlwind year ahead, now is the right time to prepare for a successful 2018. We started thinking about the resources and technologies that made 2017 productive, and considered which of those would help you have an incredibly successful 2018.
In that spirit, here are 5 free technologies that every financial professional can use to increase productivity, solve problems, improve collaboration, and reduce stress.
It goes without saying that a search engine is one of, if not the, best free technologies that a financial pro can use. The 5 tech tools you'll learn here are more unique and more specific than Google or Bing - and you'll appreciate them almost as much.
Many of these tools are at their best in Google Chrome, the free web browser from Google. If you're using Internet Explorer or another browser, you might want to consider trying out Chrome. That said, many of these tools are compatible in lots of different systems and platforms.

Grammarly is a free grammar and spelling checker that integrates seamlessly with Google Chrome. You can also download Grammarly for free to use with Microsoft Office and Outlook. Never make a simple spelling or grammar mistake again!
With Grammarly, you'll get email updates about your work and how you compare to other users who write about as much as you do. These quick emails gamify good grammar, and makes it fun to improve over time. If you really love the product, there is a paid, premium version, too.
Taking screenshots on a PC isn't always easy. Ever want to share an image from your browser, or a smaller section of a document, but didn't want to go through the hassle of printing the screen, cropping the image, etc.? This is where Nimbus helps.
Nimbus is another browser extension, and it lets you easily create screenshots. In addition, it will also let you select and annotate an entire page with comments and notes. Say you're working with a colleague on a digital report, and you wanted to share some comments. Nimbus will let you do that quickly and easily. In addition, you can even create a screencast (i.e. a video of your screen) with your voice, to send interactive messages.
Nimbus works with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, PC, and MAC.
If it's hard to concentrate in your office, and you can't listen to music and be productive, Noisli is here for you. This neat little website is a white noise generator. The website is simple, but the effect is pretty amazing.
Simply visit the site, decide whether you're looking to relax or be productive, and then build your own white noise mix. There are a few different options that you'll recognize - thunderstorm, wind, forest animals - but Noisli is unique because you can choose how much of each sound you want to hear. Alternately, you can select "Random," and the site will auto-generate a mix for you.
I've just started using it, and can confidently say that it's a great, high-quality white noise generator that really does help you focus and be productive.
If keeping up with the news is important to you, and you have a clear idea of what kinds of news you'd like to see, you'll probably like Feedly. With this news aggregator app, you can add URLs that you want to follow, and when new articles are posted there, you'll see them in your app. In addition, you can add publications you trust and topics you care about to broaden your scope.
To start, you might want to follow:
There are also specific sections of and writers at publications like The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and The New York Times that you might be interested. Finally, make sure to add some local publications so that you can stay in the loop about your community.
There are a few other tools related to the news and resources that you might be interested in, such as speed reading tools (like Spreeder or Outread, which would integrate with Feedly), reading time calculators (like Reading Time), and plug-ins that help you bookmark and save articles for later (like Pocket).
Momentum is another browser add-on that I just started using and am really enjoying. It's deceptively simple: at first glance, it's just a personalized greeting with a simple way to list your top priority that day. However, it also includes other helpful features.
In addition to helping you keep your daily priority top-of-mind, it also has a clock, a longer to-do list, the weather, a beautiful image and an inspiring quote. The effect is really positive, and it does keep you on track. Right now, Momentum is only available for Chrome.
That said, if you're looking for a more comprehensive to-do list solution, consider Todoist. I have used both the free and paid versions, and can highly recommend both.
Some experts say that creating a daily to-do list is one of the most effective tricks for getting more done in less time. Try it for yourself today!
